Elixabete Etxanobe, member of PNV, was elected this Wednesday as the general deputy of Bizkaia, becoming the first woman to lead the regional government, with the support of the 31 representatives of PNV and PSE-EE in the Juntas Generales of Bizkaia.
On the other hand, EH Bildu candidate, Iker Casanova, secured the 14 votes of the sovereignist coalition. The other two groups in the Chamber, PP and Elkarrekin, abstained from voting.
The Gernika Juntas House held a plenary session this Wednesday to choose the person to succeed Unai Rementeria as head of the Diputación de Bizkaia, following the regional elections held on May 28, in which PNV obtained 23 representatives, EH Bildu 15, PSE eight, PP three, and Elkarrekin two.
After the vote in the plenary session, Etxanobe took her oath of office outside the hemicycle, next to the Gernika Tree, where the President of the Juntas, Ana Otadui, presented her with the 'makila'.
